This is a true antique and I love these jewellery boxes and they were really popular in the 30s and 40s as the Asian styles and materials were fashionable…
This one has shell  and abalone inlays which looks fantastic faint the deep black… 
It has four inner sections has an Asian style lock to the whole piece.
